Information
Are You Still Here? tells the story of the French band Her's last tour, held after the untimely passing of co-founder Simon Carpentier. With footage from concerts, rehearsals, studio recordings or travel on the tourbus, as well as intimate conversations, the film shows how other members of the band, and longtime partner Victor Solf in particular, try to keep the dream they had with Simon alive.
Are You Still Here? 는 프랑스 밴드 Her의 공동창업자인 Simon Carpentier가 이른 나이에 세상을 떠난 이후 진행된 밴드의 마지막 투어에 대한 이야기를 들려준다. 이 영화는 내밀한 대화는 물론 콘서트, 리허설, 스튜디오 녹음, 투어버스에서 함께한 여행 등의 장면을 담고 있으며, 밴드의 다른 멤버들과 특히 오랜 파트너인 Victor Solf가 Simon이 살아있을 적에 함께 꾸었던 꿈을 어떻게 지키려 노력하는지 보여준다.

Was it difficult to remain positive and hopeful, given everything that was going on? It’s a very intense thing to go through.
지금까지 일어난 모든 일을 고려해보면, 긍정적이고 희망적인 태도를 유지하는 것이 어려웠나요? 매우 이루기 어려운 일이라 생각하는데요.
Victor: I think that it’s always difficult, to choose love instead of hate. It’s easy to hate someone, or to punch someone in the face, but it’s difficult to hug someone or be able not to criticise or judge someone. Simon tried to be like that so much. I just want to follow his path, and try to be the same?
Victor: 증오 대신 사랑을 택하는 것은 언제나 어려운 일인 것 같습니다. 누군가를 증오하거나 얼굴을 가격하는 일은 쉽지만, 타인을 껴안거나 남을 함부로 비판하고 평가하지 못하는 것은 어려운 일입니다. Simon은 그렇게 되려고 엄청 노력했어요. 저는 그가 걸어간 길을 이어 가고 싶기에 그를 닮으려 노력하고 있는 거죠?
Does it almost feel like you’re carrying the band on to honour him?
그를 기리기 위해 밴드를 이끌어 가는 느낌인가요?
Victor: Yeah, that’s exactly how I feel.
Victor: 네, 딱 제가 느끼는 기분이에요.
It must be a very different experience, writing on your own.
혼자 작곡하는 것이 아주 색다른 경험으로 다가올 것 같습니다.
Victor: Yes, it’s very different, and it’s a lot of pressure. I’ve been working with Simon my whole life, since I was 17. Everything is very new, and different. The first song I wrote since September is called ‘Are You Still Here?’, and it was for him. It was a relief for me to know that I was able to write a song alone – I never did that.
Victor: 네, 매우 색다르고 큰 부담을 느낍니다. 저는 17살 때부터 Simon과 평생 함께 작업했습니다. 모든 게 아주 새롭고 색다릅니다. 그를 위해서 만든 ‘Are You Still Here?’라는 곡이 9월 이후로 처음 작곡한 곡이었습니다. 혼자서 곡을 써 낼 수 있어서 다행이었습니다. 한 번도 해본 적이 없거든요.
